All in the Mind
Cooked by the wife, my favourite dish
Yummy fried chips, beans and fish
All smiles she was as she served the food
Love was in the air, both had a good mood
I bid goodbye to my wife with a flying kiss
Outside was a fine morning, such a bliss!
Chirping merrily were the birds in the trees
Flying in the air were the buzzing bees
In the wind were swaying flowers wild
Anemone and yellow daisy in the highveld
Colorful shrubs around the winding road
A pretty pond was home to a singing toad
Had a tiff with my wife last Friday
I was late from work, it was her birthday
She was snappy but I kept a stiff upper lip
Food was terrible, my mood had a sad dip
No goodbyes, out I step into the open
The sun is so hot, my face turns ashen
The birds make noises loud, not at all fine
The buzz of the bees seems like a whine.
The violet anemone, yellow daisy and all
For my mind a big irritation, not small
The shrubs look quite dark and gloomy
A toad in the pond, making a racket unruly
Further down the long and winding road
My mind chilled, gets into another mode
Previously dark, things start to look rozy
Ah! All in the mind, now my life is cozy!
Why did I forget the birthday, man?
Amends I must make, have to press a plan
‘Our anniversary round the corner, dear
Grand dinner I promise, I make it clear’
