Rose emanates its sweet smell far and wide
And shows off its beauty to all with pride
The small birds, honey bees and insects galore
Feed on its nectar to quench their hunger and more
The breeze takes its aroma further away
Does the rose ask anything in return, I say?
Then why this burden of egoism does
the man display?
And always keep self above everyone else to our dismay?
From one tree to another, the birds merrily hop
Most lilting tunes all day long they sing, without a stop
And for all to admire, show off their colorful plumes
Nectar from the best flowers they select, one assumes
Dispersing their seeds everywhere, as if on a cue
Do they demand something in lieu?
Then why does he demand more, this stupid man?
If he earns a thousand he yearns for two, like a businessman!
Freshness the cool breeze brings to all living things
From the trees dispersed are the seeds as if on wings
In summer heat, the cool breeze brings relief to one and all
As wind, it turns rotors to give us light, electricity we call
It moves the clouds, brings rain where in need
Yet, it remains silent on its demands, has no greed
So why, oh why is the man so selfish?
Wants everything for himself, that’s what he is prone to relish
Fruits offered by the trees of different variety
Full benefit they give to our society
Give flowers of divergent colors and shades
Enhances our lives to different grades
Reduces pollution and gives timely shade to the needy
Trees however offer these selfless services with glee
Why can’t the humans imitate this example bright
And let kindness fly out left and right?
The clouds carrying moisture hover above us
Give welcome showers when land is parched, without fuss
They protect us at times from the burning sun
Lightning produces ozone to reduce pollution
Helps in production of fertilizers for plants
So many benefits, yet nothing in return wants
But man, always wants the best for himself
Why can’t he place service to mankind before self?
Without sun there would be no life on earth
Sun warms the oceans, brings rain thenceforth
Enough heat it gives us and bright light, no less
Or else there would be only ice and darkness
It gives energy to the green plants to grow and produce oxygen
And what are its demand in return? None!
But, this mean man always wants more
Doesn’t care for anyone else, we abhor!
High time man makes efforts to change his thought process
And make this world a beautiful place to live and make progress
